Although I’ve got nothing in the oven, I just had to tell you all about the 1920s Murder Mystery Dinner that Andy and I were apart of on Saturday night! I had never attended one of these before but my Ma used to go to them and throw them for her friends when I was growing up so I couldn’t wait! Our friends Lisa and Joe were celebrating their 50th birthdays and they transformed their house into The Four Deuces Speakeasy complete with a brothel, a Blackjack table and a bodyguard that shook you down for weapons when you arrived.
Andy’s character was called Big Jim Ravioli and he was the boss of the Chicago Mob, no accent needed, he played the part just right! He wore diamonds on his hands and ears and a black suit with a pair of suspenders. It was classic! I was cast as his wife of one week, Carrie Crooner Ravioli, a jazz singer and I even had to sing Happy Birthday at the party in a Marilyn Monroe-esque way. My character was having an affair with Al Capone while Andy’s character was shot right off the bat! We all had to find out who killed him (his daughter) and we were given paper money to extort people and special cards to throw like immunity and murder cards.
Lisa spared no detail when it came to our character roles and the certain things we had to do at the party. Andy was nervous when she handed him a paper with like nine steps he had to carry out before he died! Little did he know I told Lisa to give him a big role because I knew he would rise to the occasion! After he was murdered, Andy was recast as Professor Stan Dingproud and he had to walk around acting nervous and adjusting a pair of glasses on his head. There were prizes for best costume and drama king and queen and even for who had the most money in the end. I thought I had that prize nailed because I was stealing money from people under their own nose the whole night! Alas, someone else won it. Boo.
When I was younger, I was obsessed with the game Clue and even more so with the movie starring Tim Curry. I honestly don’t know how many times I’ve seen it. Anytime my Ma was going to Videorama I would always request she get that for me. I loved the alternate endings and how ridiculous the characters like Mrs. Peacock were. The party reminded me of the movie and I just added it to my Netflix cue! Because Lisa gave us our character packets way ahead of time, we were able to prepare ourselves and perfect the role we played in the murder. Now, I really want to host one of these! Of course not in my tiny love-shack-of-a-house, but in a bigger space…maybe at the studio or at your house Lori M?! Haha! No seriously though, you all need to go to one of these in the future.Who doesn’t love a party with a theme?!
So, tomorrow on the Yummy Yogini, that Apple Cinnamon Granola that I promised to post last week! Also, I’m working on a Chai Tea Ice Cream recipe where I’ll infuse the tea into the cream. Oh! And I’m planning on making it with coconut milk so it’ll be dairy free!
