Thanks to my good gal pal and yoga student extraordinaire Kathy, I’ve got a great new pasta product to share with you all today! I know a lot of you who read this blog are gluten-free or allergic to rice or dairy or just dieting, so I do my best to keep on the lookout for cool new things for ya’ll to try! Kathy and I both shop at California Fresh Market, just down the street from my house, and she located this here pasta in their Vegan refrigerated section (yes, they have one of those!) a few months back and I finally bought and tried it last night!
California Fresh, in comparison, is like a small Whole Foods but with more unique, unheard of and hard to find items. They also have a great selection of fresh fish, deli meats and really, really good almond brittle! I’m sure you have the equivalent to this market near you, where ever you’re reading this from. So this spaghetti is low in calories (40 calories for the entire 7 oz bag!), a great source of fiber, it’s wheat-free, all natural, low carb and for every serving of PastaSlim saves 200 calories compared to regular pasta- the equivalent of a 30-minute workout!! Wow!
So these noodles, or so it says on the back of the bag, are like traditional Japanese shirataki noodles, made from konjac flour and tofu. Originally the noodles required rinsing and parboiling but this company improved on the old technique and now you just add these babies in a pot of hot water, not-boiling, and wait like 3 minutes! Easy peesy! Oh! Best part… they cost $1.49 a piece! What in the what??!!! If you can’t find it in your local finer grocery store, go online and by it there..it’s worth it. We had the Spinach Fettuccine blend last night, mixed with some of their plain Spaghetti blend, and Andy added a jar of artichoke hearts and fresh leeks with some red sauce to it! So yummy, and take it from this Italian girl, you CANNOT tell the difference!
This afternoon, I’m running around town babysitting/carpooling dogs and cats… or the “kids” as I call them. It’s great because I can sing as loud as I want and when they don’t want to hear me, they can stick their heads out the window! I also just finished reading Donna Tartt’s The Goldfinch this morning and am already onto Will Schwalbe’s The End of Your Life Bookclub, that of course my Ma has already read. “That’s so last year!” I guess. Have you read it? Thoughts? The Goldfinch was an amazing read, by the way. It was the saddest story of a young boy who loses his mother in an accident that he too, should have been killed in. He cannot move past this event and throughout his life, it becomes evident that he never will. I loved it! Can’t wait for my next Gurrrls Books Club to discuss!
Riding in cars with dogs!
I NEED to go get that pasta! Thanks for sharing about it!
It’s so good!
