It’s a new week, a new month and a new day, so out with the old and in with the new! I go back and forth with my feelings on change, sometimes I fear it and other times I welcome a change in pace. How we handle change is sometimes something that helps define us and like “they” say, whatever doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger. Change helps lead us down different paths and sometimes it’s the push we need in order to open up to new ideas and possibilities.
This weekend I was let go at a studio that I have taught at for over three years and that I worked really hard at. I was never late to class, never did a “no-show” and I introduced a plethora of the students who follow me to said studio. Of course I was disappointed, hurt and angry but I didn’t and haven’t once shed a tear so I know the decision was good for both parties involved. I won’t say anything more about the situation because my Ma raised me to always be the bigger person, to never burn bridges and to rise above the situation instead of festering and exhausting unnecessary energy. She also taught me to never compromise who I am or my morals, and she would follow that up by saying that “everyone is replaceable” meaning no matter how good you are at what you do, there’s always another yoga teacher ready and waiting to take your classes! Wise woman that Ma of mine.
Not to get all quote-y and pun-y on you today but seriously, when one door closes another door really does open. In less than 24 hours I was offered to take over six new classes at the exact time slots that I had previously, thus allowing my students to come practice with me elsewhere if they so desire. I do not, however, expect people to feel obligated about following me elsewhere because my job is to teach yoga- to new students, old students and friends alike! There are politics in teaching yoga, just like in every other single job in America and I’m lucky and grateful that I was able to find new gigs and so quickly. I’ve listed my new class times at the end of this post so check it out and I hope to see you on the mat!
Let’s move onto food now because I have a new recipe to share with you! I was at my friend and fellow teacher Meg’s house this weekend for lunch and she introduced me to a fresh, green, clean and easy Quinoa Tabouli Salad that you can make it just minutes! While we gossiped, laughed and generally enjoyed each other’s company, we snacked on this incredible salad that she made for us! I liked it so much I made it yesterday for the BIG Patriots win since I am not really into Super Bowl-ish foods. I’ll pass on the chips and dip and the gas that follows it later, thank you very much. My BFF here, Lynn and I (and yes, I only have best friend’s with the name Lynn haha) drank champagne and danced like mad women when Missy Elliott did her thang during the half time show and we cheered when the Patriots won! Pete Carroll so wishes he was still our head coach after that last play! I’m New England born, New England bred, and when I die I’ll be New England dead!
